A Hidden Life, Terrence Malick’s latest film, is the director’s most outstanding effort after Tree of Life; the film follows similar questions that Malick has always asked throughout his carrier meaning the relation between philosophy, theology and cinema . The performances are quite essential to the film since the majority of the film focuses on its two protagonists, and one can find a unique spontaneity and calmness in their performances. Terrence Malick has always been known for his unique approaches to working with actors. What difficulties and problems do actors face when working in his films? How do actors prepare for their roles? What unique thing exists in Terrance Malick’s films that makes the actors' job difficult? I had the chance to sit with August Diehl and Valerie Pachner to know more about performance in Malick's film.
